The waters off Port Aransas, Texas, are rich in blackfin tuna, in part because they quickly become deep. Another attraction for tuna is presence of shrimp boats in the area.

A competitor in the Watermelon Marlin Tourney off Freeport, TX, describes catching a 180-lb yellowfin tuna. Chumming and chunking are the best strategies for landing Texas yellowfins in both deep and shallow waters.
