Side-scanning sonar for sport fishing: now anglers can take advantage of the latest in fishfinding technology

Article Abstract:

Sound Navigation and Ranging (Sonar) allows seeing farther than an echosounder, dramatically increasing the coverage area and giving the ability to detect objects around the boat, in real time. The ability of either type of sonar to mark fish in the water column is dependent on several factors, including the reflectivity of the fish as measured by the size of the gas-filled swim bladder, the distance to and the reflectivity of the bottom, and the reflectivity of the sea surface caused by waves.
