The Illinois State Toll Highway Commission was originally authorized for the construction, operation, relocation, regulation and maintenance of toll highways in the state. It almost $139 million in 1997 to collect tolls in Illinois, 43% of its revenues. Another revenue source should be found, due to the high cost of the current system.
