Article Abstract:

Letitia Baldridge observed that politicians in the Washington DC area always eat in a hurry so that their table manners are bad. Baldridge and another etiquette expert, Craig Claiborne, each published a book on etiquette. The two authors give different, sometimes contrasting, rules of etiquette.

Caveat victor: what newcomers should know about Washington life

Old-time Washington residents may be doing a good turn by advising newcomers to the capital. Tips on food, fashion, sex and honesty are those which could prove helpful. However, the most important warning to newcomers is that life in Washington can be downright addictive.
