Article Abstract:

Going to the movies was the biggest attraction in the early 1970s in a village on the Bering Sea. This was before the era of Nintendo, video games and CDs. The Little Rascals, Abbott and Costello and the Canadian Eskimo motion pictures were shown at the community hall and at the pool hall. Viewers sat on long wooden benches or on the floor which was wet. The room was cold enough to cloud their breath. Ice crystals accumulated on the walls and melted as attendance increased.

A writer reminisces about the time when their group of three was saved by the moose that they intended to hunt. The group that was stuck in the wilds after dark had to battle hypothermia as well as the bull moose before they could get back to safety.
