Gregory Earls, former chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington was a popular man in Washington until he was sentenced to ten years in prison for defrauding investors, many of them local VIPs. He operated by surrounding himself with successful people and then dropping the names of other influential people and although he admitted his wrong doings, he insisted that he did not mean any harm and is not a criminal.

Richard Nixon tried to save his presidency by blaming a famous columnist and the Pulitzer Prize winner, Jack Anderson, in the Watergate scandal break-in. Nixon's secret Oval Office tape recordings proved that he was involved in the Watergate scandal and this led to his resignation.
