Lyndon Johnson and Martin Luther King Jr. changed America with a shared vision of equality and justice. The impetus to the passage of Johnson's landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965 came from the civil-rights movement led by the Reverend Martin Luther King, who garnered public pressure with peaceful protests that provoked violent responses.

The late Admiral Mike Boorda, who killed himself in 1996, was found deserving of his two combat award designations. Boorda, who is the Navy's highest-ranking officer as Chief of Naval Operations, received the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal.
