The Vernissage, the Museum of Contemporary Art's (MCA) spring benefit-cum-preview party for Art Chicago was held at Navy Pier, and was attended by nearly 2,250 guests, who had raised $320,000 for the MCA. Nearly 30,000 visitors are expected to visit the 158 galleries from around the globe and view the works of more than 2,000 artists who are represented by these galleries.

Sharon Sears, an architect, decided to build a castlelike mansion in the Independence Park neighborhood of Chicago. She checked the zoning status of the lot prior to initiating her plans, however, was let down as the whole neighborhood objected to this construction since the structure would be out of place there.
