Legacy of Dunhuang

Article Abstract:

The town of Dunhuang, China, consists of cave-temples which were created after a buddhist monk decorated a cave for meditation. The arts present there reflect a religious and cultural period of the past China. However, natural and human factors present a great danger to these historical caves. Winds, earthquakes, and increased carbon dioxide by humans have threatened the sculptures and paintings. There are measures underway to protect and maintain these caves.
