Article Abstract:

Winter ecology is a relatively new field of study that focuses on the behavioral adaptation of animals to the cold and snow. To many animals the winter snow is critical to their survival because it provides camouflage that makes it more difficult for predators to spot them; and it serves as protection from the elements because temperatures beneath the snow can be much warmer than in the open air.
