A stitch in time

Article Abstract:

Sein Win Myint is a master tapestry artist and former businessman anxious to revive the languishing art of kalaga embroidery in Burma. Art there faltered during the years of isolation, sustained only by smuggled exports to Thailand, which often gets credit for the work. Sein Win Myint trained as a painter and prides himself on the detail, craftsmanship, and beauty of his works, one of which went to the United Nations as a gift from Burma's rulers. Kalagas usually consist of threads, beads, and sequins on black velvet.
