Explorer Frederick A. Cook claimed that he reached the summit of Mount McKinley in Alaska in 1906. However, historians, such as Bradford Washburn, contest this claim. According to Washburn, Cook may had climbed up to about 5,000-foot level only instead of the entire 10,000-foot level.
