Is your furniture making you sick?

Article Abstract:

Furniture may contain toxins that many may not be aware of. These toxic chemicals include mercury found in lamp bases and pendulums of antique clocks, phthalates in shower curtains and tablecloths, and formaldehyde in pressed-wood furniture and permanent-press fabrics. Details on how to avoid health threats from these substances are discussed.

Issues concerning the high numbers of cases of the autoimmune diseases, scleroderma and lupus, in pockets of South Boston are discussed. Sufferers of the diseases have successfully campaigned for a study into the diseases and their distribution.

Tips on preventing colds and flus are presented. They include stress reduction, drinking fluids, proper ventilation, hand washing, cleaning surfaces and taking vitamin C. Flus are readily spread than colds.
