Living on the edge

Article Abstract:

Humans invariably continue habits that they know are bad for them. The reasons for this behavior are discussed and suggestions for controlling them are given. Seven strategies to help make permanent changes include changing behavior in stages, using distractions, avoiding the places, people and things associated with the behavior and accepting relapses.

A tale of two sexes: bridging the gender gap in medicine

There has been a flurry of medical research on women's health issues in the last decade. In the past, researchers tested new drugs and studied diseases on male subjects. In the 1990s, new research has focused on women and heart disease, hormones and their impact on menstrual cycles, women's immune systems, and sexuality.
