Ethnos and the Beat poets

Article Abstract:

Four Beat poets - Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso and Amiri Baraka - went through several stages of consciousness about their ethnicity. In each stage their ethnicity influenced their writing and their writing influenced their view of ethnicity. The three states of interaction between ethnicity and writing are the primordial, ideological and semiotic. These states are distinguished by the extent to which each poet identified with his ethnic group and sought to remedy its historical inarticulateness.

Max Frankel

Article Abstract:

'The New York Times Magazine' media columnist Max Frankel says that publications that write about him should be responsible enough and ask his opinion about the matter. He recalls an experience with unfair coverage when an article erroneously claimed that he was resigning as editor of the 'The New York Times' earlier than expected. He also describes a conflict with a feminist group that criticized 'The New York Times.'
