The women decide to try for the summit in spite of the recent death of a friend in a helicopter crash. The climb to the summit which becomes treacherous because of a drastic change in the weather is recounted. Only Jill Sickels Matlock reaches the top. The women's attitudes are discussed.

A woman describes her experiences backpacking through Southern Utah's Escalante canyon area. At first she felt claustrophic amidst the tight canyon walls, but then she relaxed and found her mood becoming expansive. She explored Anasazi ruins and watched the moon rise over the canyon.
