High-performance quartz crystal oscillators

Article Abstract:

The Hirst Division of GEC-Marconi Materials Technology has been involved in design, development and manufacture of miniature high stability low power quartz crystal oscillators for defence and space applications, since 1980. Such devices uses precision SC-cut quartz resonators, and the design process involves acoustic/waveguide modeling of the quartz resonator. Quartz crystal oscillators are necessary components in communications systems, and current a future applications include GPS receivers and secure radio systems.
