Prematurity: a growing crisis
Article Abstract:
Premature births are always a concern, but the problem is taking a new urgency because the percentage of premature births is rising from 9.4 in 1981 to 11.6 in 2000 that represents a 23 percent increase. About 460,000 American babies were born early, that is, before 37 weeks' gestation, in the year 2000.
