Racing against the odds: can a team of women capture the most prestigious trophy in yachting?

Article Abstract:

The first all-women's yachting crew will compete in the 1995 America's Cup race. The team is backed by 1992 champion Bill Koch, and has been training in San Diego, CA, since May 1993. More than 60 female athletes tried out for the team. A behind-the-scenes description of tryouts is given.

Lyn Brooks has competed in the Ironman triathlon 15 times, but she and her four teammates are now training for the Eco-Challenge, which will be held in Apr 1995. The Eco-Challenge is a ten-day race in Utah that involves rafting, running, biking and horseback riding.
