Should you use tooth whiteners?

Tooth whiteners have been reclassified as a drug rather than a cosmetic by the Food and Drug Administration. Three-step whiteners rinse away enamel and can cause sensitivity and decay. Little is known about the long-term effects of bleaching gels or toothpastes on teeth and gums.

Sweet stevia

Stevia rebaudiana is a natural herb that is 300 times more sweet than sugar without the calories. It is commonly used as a food additive worldwide. However, the US Food and Drug Administration bans stevia because of its alleged harmful effects.

Olestra: the latest food miracle?

Olestra, a fat substitute, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a snack food ingredient. Its sucrose polyester molecular configuration renders it indigestible which may cause digestive problems.
