Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) that occurs during winter can be prevented by engaging in activities such as getting enough sunlight and sleep. Other activities that prevent SAD includes exercise, taking vitamins and washing hands with disinfectant soap.

Adherence to healthy lifestyle, such as exercising and dieting, remains to be the most effective way to prevent winter weight gain. Weight gain results during winter due to longer sleeping hours, eating excess food and immobility.
