Experts now think the diet of the Mediterranean area is a model for healthy nutrition. The most controversial yet perhaps most beneficial foods in the diet are olive oil and wine. Research shows that olive oil helps lower cholesterol and wine may reduce risk of hearth attack.

The 'only diet you'll ever need' requires dieters to reduce the quantity of food they consume and exercise. Similar to the Mediterranean diet, it derives its fat from monounsaturated fats and includes fresh fruits as well as vegetables.

Researcher on the diet of native Indians indicates that mesquite is the perfect diet food. It is low in fat, but filling. Beans have all the properties of mesquite, but they are easier to find.
