The people v. Juanita Thomas: a battered woman's journey to freedom

This article discusses African American Juanita Thomas's experience within the criminal justice system after she was charged with first degree murder. The authors provide a detailed account of the case they put together and the strategy they employed to defend Juanita Thomas after she killed her abusive boyfriend in self-defense.
