The pregnant clinical psychologist: issues, impressions and observations

Article Abstract:

Most of the literature concerning psychotherapy with pregnant therapists has discussed the negative impacts on clients and only recently has there been any consideration of the positive aspects. One clinical psychologist's experience was that her pregnancy did not negatively influence her practice and allowed her to change the images of gender stereotypes when teaching university courses. However, the changes in both teaching and client-therapist relations relate more to conceptions of pregnancy and therapy model and an existential-experiential perspective can make the situation positive.

Only she who attempts the absurd can achieve the impossible: rethinking the dream

Article Abstract:

A psychotherapist relates her experience after a mid-life change from a housewife to a college student, college teacher and finally to a practicing psychotherapist. She uses her experience with clients who also experience the need to change their life situation but are too constrained by social pressures to recognize that need as having any validity. The psychotherapist encourages recognition of and action on those needs as well as reinforcing women's right to change.
