People who come in second in a race or competition feel less happier than third placers. 'Counterfactual thoughts' or 'what-might-have-beens' fill their minds, knowing how close the top spot was. Third placers may actually be happier, realizing that they could have performed worse.

A large number of immigrant workers are being exploited by unscrupulous garment manufacturers. These laborers are being forced to work long hours with very minimal compensation. The Dept. of Labor has cracked down on some of these sweatshops in California and New York, NY.
