Bonding with a baby does not take place only at birth, but throughout a baby's development. It applies to fathers as well as mothers, who can best bond with the baby by nurturing it and giving it a lot of attention.

A newborn's first medical examination occurs in the delivery room. The tests that are performed include checking for breathing and a heartbeat and giving Apgar scores on the basis of the baby's functionality.
