Women have been trained to think that camping and hiking are men's activities. Myths about menstruation, sex and bears are debunked, as are the myth that hikers don't have a chance to keep clean. Clothing and equipment tips are offered. Water and water purification equipment is essential.

Cooper, one of the original promoters of aerobics, believes the consumption of antioxidants can help stabilize naturally-produced free radicals in the body. In his book 'Kenneth Cooper's Antioxidant Revolution' he claims athletes need to eat more antioxidants than the general population.

Athletes may need higher than normal levels of such antioxidants as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and beta carotene to prevent harm from free radicals in their bodies. Studies suggest that athletes who took high levels of supplements reduced damage to muscle cells.
