The Alternative Miss World Contest, established by sculptor-jeweller Andrew Logan in 1972, has developed into a surreal art event. It attracts artists, drag queens, fashion designers and a wide range of other people, and features outrageous performances and costumes. Both men and women are permitted to enter, and the competition has only once been won by a woman. The judges for the 1998 event include Brian Eno and Anita Roddick.
