When welfare works

Article Abstract:

Republican congressmen try to abolish welfare laws such as aid to unwed mothers, Aid to Families with Dependent Children and other welfare schemes on the basis that women abuse these welfare programs. However, women such as Karen Ray, who raised her son with the help of the aid programs, have benefited from these programs. Ray thinks there is no large scale misuse of aid money and feels that better day care options and sex education will help women.
