Live, from hell

Article Abstract:

Reporters tend to appear empathetic towards war victims when covering human tragedies resulting from military campaigns and bombardments. The truth, however, underscores a game that reporters play for a television or newspaper audience. They know that ratings are important and that intense suffering increases the size of their following. War victims, also, know that the more coverage there is of their suffering, the more sympathy and help they can expect from a global audience.

Women, the home and resistance in Northern Ireland

Article Abstract:

This article looks at how police actions, in particular house raids, effect the role of women in resistance to military and police intervention in Northern Ireland. This essay particularly addresses women's experiences and perceptions of policing policies, and how dealing with military repression teaches women to deal with male and social repression, opening the field for feminist interpretations of women in conflict.
