A model of northern pintail productivity and population growth rate

Article Abstract:

Managers of wildlife populations can use simple population models to guide their decisions and to estimate reproductive success. A new study of northern pintails in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, aims to develop an individual-based model which incorporates individual components of reproductive performance and to examine the relative contributions of productivity and survival on the growth rate of the population. The model suggests that there needs to be a 40% increase in nest success and duckling survival for the pintail population to achieve stability.

Estimates of survival from radiotelemetry: A response to Guthery and Lusk

Article Abstract:

The technical and philosophical flaws in Guthery and Lusk's critique of northern bobwhite studies utilizing radiotelemetry to scale daily survival rates from seasonal to annual estimates is addressed.
