Dynamic measurement of myosin light-chain-domain tilt and twist in muscle contraction

Article Abstract:

A method to measure protein structural changes in cells during their physiological function is described, using a bifunctional rhodamine fluorescence-polarization technique. The method successfully measures the orientation of a protein domain in a cellular environment on the sub-millisecond timescale. The resulting information would complement high-resolution structures from X-ray crystallography and nuclear magnetic resonance.
