A single class of olfactory neurons mediates behavioural responses to a Drosophila sex pheromone

Article Abstract:

The role of Or67d and the Or67d olfactory receptor neurons (ORNs) in Drosophila mating behavior was assessed by generating mutant alleles in which the open reading frame of Or67d was replaced with that of the yeast transcriptional activator GAL4. The findings suggest that the courtship suppression is strictly dependent on both the presence of the moth pheromone on the female and the corresponding pheromone receptor in the Or67d ORNs in the males.

A receptor that mediates the post-mating switch in Drosophila reproductive behavior

Article Abstract:

A recently discovered receptor for mediating the post-mating switch in Drosophila melanogaster reproductive behavior is examined. The sex peptide (SP) is found to be the main trigger of the post-mating responses in such species.
