Effects of gamete traits on fertilization in the sea and the evolution of sexual dimorphism

Article Abstract:

The success of fertilization in sea urchins depends on differences in gamete characteristics. Field studies show that gamete features and environmental conditions affect the differences in fertilization success. Gamete dispersal due to sea conditions accounts for only 21% of the differences. Natural selection is an important determinant for both male and female gametes. Natural selection for greater fertilization success allows the evolution of sexual dimorphism and anisogamy.

Solitary wave behaviour of sand dunes

Article Abstract:

Several models have attempted to described dune morphology and formation. The equations of motion that describe what happens when a small barchan dune bumps into a larger one is solved.
