Kootenai River white sturgeon recovery plan

Article Abstract:

The Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has developed a draft recovery plan for the endangered white sturgeon found in the Kootenai River in Idaho and Montana and Kootenay Lake in Canada. Its population has been declining since the mid-1960s, falling to just around 880 in 1990, largely because human activities have altered the river's natural flow patterns. The FWS's proposals include using hatchery propagation and increasing the flows of the Kootenai River.

Basic training for ferrets

Article Abstract:

The Fish and Wildlife Service requested the assistance of the Dept. of Defense (DoD) when it found that its program to reintroduce endangered black-footed ferrets into the wild needs additional funding. The DoD agreed to provide space for the ferret preconditioning facilities, as well as funding from the DoD Legacy Resource Management Funds. Evidence shows that the joint effort has helped increase the survival rate of ferrets released in the wild.
