Aerosol-assisted self-assembly of mesostructured spherical nanoparticles

Article Abstract:

A method based on evaporation-induced interfacial self-assembly restricted to spherical aerosol droplets has been used to synthesize solid, well-ordered spherical particles with stable pore mesostructures of hexagonal and cubic topology. Film formation takes place via droplet coalescence, with the resulting films being extremely ordered. This is significant for applications such as membranes. The curvature of the particle surface has a substantial impact on mesostructure development.

Continuous formation of supported cubic and hexagonal mesoporous films by sol-gel dip-coating

Article Abstract:

Continuous mesoporous thin films could have applications in selective catalysis, membrane-based separation and sensors, but the process of building such films has been slow and the films have been granular. A new, sol-gel, dip-coating method is described that allows for the rapid synthesis of mesoporous thin films on a sold substrate.

Rapid prototyping of patterned functional nanostructures

Article Abstract:

New procedures are described which link computer-aided design and self-assembled nanostructures. It is hoped that the techniques will overcome the impracticality of using conventional photolithography for defining ultra-small feature sizes.
