Aggression and worker control of caste fate in a multiple-queen wasp, parachartegus colobopterus

Article Abstract:

The aggression, which emanates essentially from the conflict among colonymates in 34 colonies of the wasp Parachartegus coloborpterus, was investigated by evaluating the characteristics of both instigators and victims of aggressive interactions. The findings support the hypothesis that genetic conflicts of interest motivate worker aggression in swarm-founding wasp colonies.

Effect of low temperature exposure on oviposition behavior and patch exploitation strategy in parasitic wasps

Article Abstract:

Female Anaphes victus (Hymenoptera Mymaridae) were stored 0, 3, 6 and 12 weeks at 4 degree Celsius at the second larval instar to analyse the effect of low-temperature exposure on learning, patch exploitation strategies and patch-leaving rules used by Anaphes victus. The degree of the change in behaviour was positively correlated with the duration of cold exposure.

Resource defence in female pollinating fig wasps: two's a contest, three's a crowd

Article Abstract:

Larger female pollinating figs, foundresses, prevented smaller foundreeses from ovipositioning by holding them in their mandible while the larger ones oviposited. The defense mechanism of the foundresses is documented.
