An assessment of the focal-species approach for conserving birds in variegated landscapes in southeastern Australia

Article Abstract:

Lambeck's 'focal species' approach is assessed to identify the minimum patch size, habitat structural complexity and landscape connectivity required to accommodate existing woodland birds. This approach was used in South Eastern Australia and thus it was reported it is effective for rapidly developing planning guidelines for the conservation of woodland birds in the varied landscapes.

Conserving compartments in pollination webs

Article Abstract:

Pollination systems in European agricultural landscapes are threatened by changes in land use. Pollination webs are compared with food webs where compartmentalization is expected to be more common. Compartments within a web may differ in ways relevant to conservation.
