An unprincipled Universe?

Article Abstract:

The Cosmological Principle, which states that the Universe is the same in every place and in every direction, is being challenged by a group of researchers who claim that the Universe is not uniform at all. They argue that the Universe has an infinite hierarchical structure, with galaxies grouping together in clusters. These clusters group together in superclusters, and so on. They believe that the statistical methods used by cosmologists to assess galaxy clustering data are not suitable because they work from the assumption of the property of large-scale homogeneity.

Weighing the Universe

Article Abstract:

A new analysis of the radio data indicates that the Universe may be wavering between continued growth and collapse. K.I. Kellermann devised this cosmological model based on an estimate of the distribution of matter in space and the effects of the resulting gravitation. An innovative aspect of this model is its incorporation of data concerning the sizes of compact jets emanating from quasars and radio galaxies instead of from the entire length of the radio sources.
