Analysing animal social structure
Article Abstract:
A method and statistical techniques for analyzing animal social structure were tested using data from one real and four simulated animal populations. The method is applicable to populations that are easily observed and to those in which it is possible to identify some individuals. Results showed that the method and techniques provide a more complete and realistic description of the social environment of individual animals and allow useful comparisons between populations and species.

Parental provisioning, nestling departure decisions and prefledgling mass recession in Cassin's auklets
Article Abstract:
Parental provisioning behaviour and nestling departure decisions work together to prompt prefledgling mass recession in Cassin's auklets, Ptychoramphus aleuticus. In the late phase of burrow residence, parents seem to feed heavier nestlings less often than lighter ones of the same age, with older nestlings being feed less often than younger nestlings of the same mass. Age seems to have the strongest and most consistent impact on nestling departure decisions.
