Ancient genomics is born

Article Abstract:

Researchers have described the sequencing of more than a million base pairs of Neanderthal DNA, which can help in exploring the genetic basis of functional differences between Neanderthals and humans. The full Neanderthal genome describes the importance of mutations in genes that result in structural and physiological changes, compared with mutations that affect the regulation of those genes.

An Arabidopsis hAT-like transposase is essential for plant development

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that a transposases from Arabidopsis thaliana, named Daysleeper is essential for normal plant growth is presented; that shares several characteristics with the hAT family of transposases. The results indicate that transposase-like genes could be essential for plant development and could also regulate global gene expression.

Selfish elements make a mark

Article Abstract:

A bioinformatics study of the human genome, which revealed that these obstacles could be imposed on a cellular gene thorough the integration of L1 sequences is presented. The findings of this study have revealed major mechanisms that connect genomic plasticity to the evolution of whole organisms.
