Endocannabinoid-mediated rescue of striatal LTD and motor deficits in Parkinson's disease models

Article Abstract:

The excitatory synapses onto higher indirect-pathway medium spiny neurons (MSNs) have displayed higher release probability and larger N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor currents than direct-pathway synapses. The results have helped in understanding the normal functions of the basal ganglia and have suggested different methods for developing the therapeutic drugs for treating striatal-basal brain disorders like Parkinson's disease and Huntington's disease.

Spatial learning without NMDA receptor-dependent long-term potentiation

Article Abstract:

The N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated long-term potentiation (LTP) is not essential for normal spatial learning. Both the non-spatially pretrained and the control rats give efficient watermaze performance. The NMDA receptor antagonist 2R,4R,5S-2-amino-4,5-(1,2-cyclo hexyl)-7-phosphonoheptano acid inhibits the dentate gyrus LTP in rats but has no effect on the normal spatial learning in watermaze.
