Atmosphere out of that world

Article Abstract:

The planet HD209458b appears to have an atmosphere of hydrogen, some of which seems to be beyond the planet's gravity, according to a new study. The planet is about the size of Juptier, but is 100 times closer to its Sun-like star than Jupiter is, so the planet is subject to intense heat and stellar radiation. The large size of the hydrogen atmosphere suggests that perhaps the heat is vaporizing mass from the planet itself.

Wave-like properties of solar supergranulation

Article Abstract:

Supergranulation on the Sun's surface is due to horizontal outflows, which appear to come in waves with periods of 6-9 days. The pattern appears to rotate around the Sun faster than magentic features do because the waves are predominantly prograde, according to new studies by researchers at Stanford University and NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

The missing black-hole link

Article Abstract:

The intermediate mass black holes, which exist between the two mass regimes of stellar-mass black hole and the supermassive black holes, are not yet detected. The images that show compact X-ray sources lurking in and around star clusters in nearby galaxies are described to be associated with intermediate mass black holes.
