Attitudes toward sustainability and extinction

Article Abstract:

New additions to the list of threatened animals has highlighted the need to create sustainable development policies in fishery management. Collaboration between resource managers and conservation biologists will improve the quantity and quality of data used for evaluation, and will also yield coordinated and comprehensive approaches to commercial fish species preservation.

A Framework for Improved Monitoring of Biodiversity: Responses to the World Summit on Sustainable Development

Fishery stability, local extinctions, and shifts in community structure in skates

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that fishery conservation based on aggregated population trends is misleading and masks disappearances and declines of individual species. Data further suggest that larger skates are more vulnerable to such fluctuations.
