Big Blue in deep

Article Abstract:

The decision of IBM, one of the world's largest computer companies, to invest an enormous US$6 billion in India by 2010 has evoked mixed reactions from the country's information-technology industry. IBM has not set up research or major product development facilities in India, other than hiring computer programmers and customer-support specialists and is not forthcoming about investment details, leading some observers to accuse IBM of exploiting cheap, skilled labor without relocating high-value positions to India.

Rival monsoon forecasts banned

Article Abstract:

The Indian government plans to remove monsoon forecasts from the website of climate institute in India to prevent confusion among the public by conflicting forecasts. For this purpose Department of Science and Technology (DST) would in future collect and disseminate monsoon data produced by research institutes to avoid confusion.

India's new Ministry of Earth Sciences is planning a new deep-sea and polar research. India is also building a robotic underwater vehicle with the help of Russia and is planning designing a manned underwater submersible.
