Bioeconomic Modeling in Conservation Pest Management: Effect of Stoat Control on Extinction Risk of an Indigenous New Zealand Passerine, Mohua ochrocephala

Article Abstract:

A stochastic, empirically based model is presented linking sequential change in stoat, mouse, and beech seedfall abundance to Mohua passerine demographics. It is used to assess relative cost efficiency of Mohua conservation and stoat control.

Modeling the Effects of Limiting the Number of Visitors on Failure Rates of Seabird Nests

Article Abstract:

Research on capping daily visitor numbers to nature reserves is examined for its impact on seabird breeding success. Data are drawn from Black-legged Kittiwakes and Common Murres; capping appears to have small conservation costs.

Effects of Restoring Oak Savannas on Bird Communities and Populations

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that prescribed fire can play an important role in bird conservation. Number and density of bird species for closed-canopy forests and oak savannas in Illinois are used as an illustration.
