Biological control of terrestrial silica cycling and export fluxes to watersheds

Article Abstract:

Silicon plays an important part in various biogeochemical procedures and usually the movement of silica to soil solutions and stream waters seems to be checked by the climatic conditions and finally leads to the suspension of silicate minerals. Moreover, the plants utilize a lot of silica from the soil that is reprocessed in the soil from the waste that is spread around and it again mixes in the soil for a different plant, this cycle is very important.

Subwavelength-diameter silica wires for low-loss optical wave guiding

Article Abstract:

An experiment conducted whereby subwavelength-diameter silica wires were fabricated for use in low-loss optical waveguides within visible to near infrared spectral range. The results of the experiment that used two-step drawing processes to fabricate the wires is presented.

Chemical reduction of three-dimensional silica micro-assemblies into microporous silicon replicas

Article Abstract:

Silica shell of diatoms was converted into silicon and magnesia by reacting silica with magnesium gas at 650 degree centigrade. Silicon produced by magnesiothermic reduction maintained the three-dimensional structure of the original silica.
