Body size and risk of extinction in Australian mammals

Article Abstract:

The relation between the body size and the risk of extinction in Australian Mammals is studied, as it is widely believed that the species in the intermediate size range of 35 to 5500grams is most prone to extinction. The studies reveal that the hypothesis linking intermediate body size with high risk of extinction in Australian mammals are misleading and on the contrary the research should be diverted to explain why the smallest species are the most resistant to extinction.
