Carbon nanotubes as long ballistic conductors

Article Abstract:

Previous research on single-walled carbon nanotubes suggested that armchair nanotubes, a special achiral subset, should be metallic. A new study demonstrates that conduction electrons in armchair nanotubes are affected by interplay between the tube and its environment causing residual disorder. Details of the findings are presented.

Communication at millimetre-submillimetre wavelengths using a ceramic ribbon

Article Abstract:

The use of a ribbon-like structure with an aspect ratio of 10:1, made from ceramic alumina, produces a waveguide with an attentuation factor of less than 10 dB km-1 in the millimetre-submillimetre band. This attenuation is more than 100 times smaller than that of a conventional ceramic circular rod waveguide.
