Catalysis of homologous DNA pairing by yeast Rad51 and Rad54 proteins

Article Abstract:

Rad54 protein has been found to substantially boost the pairing rate between a circular single-stranded DNA molecule and its homologous linear double-stranded counterpart. The pairing rate reaches a level comparable with that seen with prokaryotic pairing proteins. It has been established that D-loop formation is dependent on Rad54 protein. This research indicates a new view of recombination in eukaryotes, with the Rad51 nucleoprotein filament forming the basis on which catalytic amounts of Rad54 promote homologous DNA pairing.

DNA helicase Srs2 disrupts the Rad51 presynaptic filament

Article Abstract:

Results show that the attenuation of recombination efficiency by the SRS2 gene encoded Srs2 protein is due to the protein's ability to dismantle the Rad51 presynaptic filament. Research throws light on the cause of Bloom's and Werner's syndromes, which are caused by mutations in DNA helicase. Data indicate that Srs2 possesses ATPase activity and binds Rad51 recombinase.

The Srs2 helicase prevents recombination by disrupting Rad51 nucleoprotein filaments

Article Abstract:

Research shows that Srs2 helicase inhibits Rad51 recombinase mediated DNA strand exchange as well as disrupts Rad51 filaments formed on single-stranded DNA. Data point out to the antirecombinogenic feature of Srs2 and its role in the recombination control.
